  • Your total weight gain during the entire term of pregnancy should be between 9 to 15 kgs
  • Your weight should increase only during and after the fourth or fifth month, not before that
  • Consult your doctor before taking any medicine.
  • Stay away from unnecessary browsing on internet and useless messages and videos on WhatsApp
  • Do not cross your knees while sitting on a chair.
  • Keep your knees together while turning in bed or sitting in the car
  • While climbing stairs, climb sideways and close to the wall. This will help prevent pain in the pelvic area
  • While bathing, wash your vagina with intimate wash
  • Moisturize your skin with a good moisturizer of coconut oil daily after bathing
  • Apply ghee or coconut oil on your nipples daily after bathing

Helpful lifestyle changes

  • Both husband and wife should start taking care of their lifestyle to prepare physically and mentally to have a baby at least one year before they plan to conceive.
  • Have a bowl of curd every day.
  • Increase intake of lemon. Squeeze lemon in your dals, soups, salads and vegetable juices
  • Include in your diet: Fruits and Vegetables, green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, nuts and seeds, bajra, jowar, ragi, rajgira, beans, black grams, pulses, steel cut oats, milk, Coconut water, coconut milk, lemon, kokum
  • Avoid eating: packaged or ultra-processed foods and juices, fried and spicy food, pasta, pizza, fast food, papaya (raw and ripe), pineapple, watermelon, brinjal, bread, meat, fish
  • Have a small piece of jaggery after every meal
  • Ginger tea can help during morning sickness. Boil ginger in water. Add honey and sip on it
  • Monitor your fluid intake. Too less fluids can create problems with the placenta and amniotic fluid.
  • Avoid drinking tea or coffee with or immediately after meals
  • Limit your sugar intake to 5 teaspoons a day. WHO recommends 5-10 teaspoons of sugar intake daily
  • Do not sleep with stomach full of food. Eat at least 2.5 to 3 hours before sleeping
  • Sleep on your left side with a pillow pressed between your knees
  • Walk for 30 minutes daily
  • Focus on managing and strengthening your muscles rather than losing fat
  • Do sun-bathing for 10 minutes daily. It can be done between sunrise and 1.5 hours after sunrise or one hour before sunset
  • Talk to your baby. This is the best time to establish great bonding with the baby
  • Read newspaper and inspiring books and listen to good music. Solve puzzles to keep your mind active
  • Keep your stress under control by indulging in your hobbies
  • Avoid using microwave for cooking or re-heating food
  • Ensure that you eat in limits, be physically active, breathe right and sleep well. This will help you stay away from developing gestational diabetes, gaining excess weight, thyroid issues and maintaining proper blood pressure
